Welcome
The Harbour Light in formative years were strategically located along the sea shores of coastal communities, bordering the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. They were most important in navigation, for those were the lights that guided the ships into safe anchorage. It was one thing to have the beacon on the main lands for ships out to sea, but it was the lovely harbour lights that gave the safe passage among the other lights, enough to be recognizable, so that they are not mistaken for something else. The harbour lights have been largely credited for preserving many precious lives.
In 1954 Major Joshua Monk, in visionary and devout man of faith and compassion, instituted the first Harbour Light Corps and Treatment Program in the city of Toronto. Since that time men and their families have looked to the Harbour Light for professional and spiritual support in combating one of societies cruelest social maladies (drug & alcohol addiction). Katie and I are privileged to be Corps Officers of the Harbour Light Church. We are located in Toronto’s busy downtown where we meet, relate and grow in the Grace of God.
It is fair to say that the needs are enormous in the downtown, inner city but undoubtedly a place where I see God at work in multiple ways.
The Harbour Light Church is known here in the city as the church that never sleeps as we have ministries going day and night. (365 days a year including Christmas and other holidays. These ministries are saturated with prayer on a daily basis, by key spiritual leaders who work the front lines of our ministries, and others who take a kingdom interest in what we do.
Our church is usually filled on Sunday morning with eager worshippers who joyfully participate. We have a young multi-cultured congregation but balanced with some older mature Christians. Many of our congregants have amazing stories of God’s wonderful grace in healing and wholeness by His Spirit. It is truly an uplifting spiritual experience to worship at the Harbour Light on a Sunday morning.
The Harbour Light Church is currently transition and eagerly await the opening of our new building at 160 Jarvis St. This will enhance and broaden our opportunity to offer appropriate spiritual activities and programs to those we gladly serve.
