- What is ESL?
English as a Second Language (ESL) Programs: These are general programs in which students are taught English using the four language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Classes are offered at the beginner (CLB 1-2), intermediate (CLB 3-4), and advanced levels (CLB 5-6).
- Am I qualified to study in your school?
To register and to participate in a program, students must show proof of Canadian residency at the time of registration.
Documents confirming any of the following will be acceptable as proof of residency:
• Permanent Resident
• Refugee Claimant
• Convention Refugee
• Landed Immigrant
• Canadian Citizenship
• Minister’s Permit (with valid date)
- How do I get registered in your school?

- What class should I go?
We will assess your English language level before we guide you to a class.
- How much doese your class cost?
$ 15 for material cost for your first term, $ 10 for the rest (TDSB required). The program fee is non-refundable.

- What is LINC and how do I enroll in LINC class?
LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) classes are ONLY available to landed immigrants.
To be eligible for the LINC program, you must
• be a Permanent Resident of Canada (Landed Immigrant) or Convention Refugee (or a newcomer who has been allowed to remain in Canada, to whom CIC intends to grant permanent resident status and who has not acquired Canadian citizenship)
• be older than school-leaving age (adult, 17 years of age or older)
• have your language ability evaluated by a Language assessment centre. If, according to the Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment, you are assessed at
o benchmark 1-7 in the listening/speaking skill
o benchmark 1-6 in the reading skill
o benchmark 1-6 in the writing skill
you will be placed in a LINC program. If you are assessed above this level, you will be referred to a more appropriate ESL program.
To enroll in LINC you must first have your language level evaluated (assessed). This is a free service provided by certain community groups in Ontario. You can find a local Language Assessment Centre in our Ontario by Region section.
