World Refugee Day 2008 (June 20)

By irs_zhen | June 17, 2008

We are proudly to be a partner of the World Refugee Day event hosted annually by UNHCR here in Toronto.  Our ESL/Program coodinator–Anne is representing the Salvation Army Immigrant and Refugee Services in the steering committee.  World Refugee Day (June 20)

This year, the event theme is: Protecting Refugees: Rebuilding Lives in Safety and Dignity

In 2008, World Refugee Day is not only an occasion to salute the incredible tenacity and strength of the world’s refugees, but also an opportunity to thank all those who protect refugees and provide them with a chance to rebuild their lives in safety and dignity.

To support this theme, UNHCR will make promotional materials available to agencies wishing to celebrate World Refugee Day. These promotional materials are comprised of a 12″ x 18″ poster and a 3.5″ x 5″ postcard, both in French and English. Detailed information on how to order these promotional materials will follow be posted on this site once they become available.

We continue to encourage local agencies to approach their city authorities and request that June 20, 2008 be proclaimed World Refugee Day.
